Journeys…

All of us know what it means to be on a journey. Some journeys are long and some seem short. Some are slow and uneventful and while others are fast and dramatically impacting. Some of our journeys are confusing and we feel lost, alone and wandering, while other times that confusing can lead to finding ourselves.

There are journeys to giving birth. Journeys through grief. Journeys of marriage and raising kids. Journeys of letting go and saying good-bye to dear friends. And journeys of saying hello and welcoming new ones.

Sometimes journeys can be complicated.

Sometimes painful.

Sometimes a 1980s band.

Sometimes joyful.

Sometimes exciting.

Sometimes restorative.

Our journeys help us see God, see each other and see ourselves. They give us the chance to explore our world, discover what it means to love God and learn to love others. Journeys are a chance to make mistakes, learn from our mistakes and be changed by our mistakes. They are spiritually shaping, emotionally maturing, mentally expanding and, sometimes even, physically demanding.

Life is a journey.

… and, for me, its been quite a journey that has lead me to Woodward, OK. In the early 1920s my great-grandfather Williams journeyed with his family across the midwest seeking fertile land he could cultivate and put down roots. That journey lead him to Woodward. In 1903 my great-grandfather Pierson, a doctor, journeyed across the midwest seeking a place he could set up his practice, settling here on Main Street between 8th and 9th.

Like my ancestors, I have sought a community I could love, serve and share life as together we passionately seek to follow Christ. This journey as led me to places like, Arlington, TX, Oklahoma City, Denver, CO, Cincinnati, OH, Chicago, IL and many others. I have walked with congregations of all ages as we journey together to discover who we are and how we can be the best reflection of what it mean to be the Church. Along the way, I’ve discovered that the one of the most important part of every church’s journey has been learning each other’s stories and sharing our life’s journeys.

That is my hope here, to learn and share with your journeys. I want to know who you are, listen to your stories, and learn what it means to be a part of New Horizons. I want to know your hopes, your dreams and what you long for as a person, in a church, in a friend. One of my favorite aspects of Christ is the fact that He journeys with us through life’s ups and downs and asks us to do the same for each other. That is my hope for my time with you… to journey together.

So, lets set aside some time to get to know each other. My calender is open… lets connect.

Grace, love and peace,

Becky
